Three Masterclasses by W.E. took place on May 31, 2025, at The St. Regis Shanghai Jing’an, offering an exceptional platform for terroir-driven exploration and cross-continental dialogue.
Initiated by W.E. (The Wine Experience by WINWSA) as a natural extension of the WINWSA community, the event aimed to connect legendary estates with a discerning audience of trade professionals, educators, and passionate enthusiasts — fostering deep, sensory learning beyond labels and borders. The masterclass series demonstrated W.E.’s commitment to facilitating authentic conversations about time, place, and the people who shape the world’s finest wines.
The masterclass lineup featured Montus & Bouscassé from Southwest France, Ceretto from Italy’s Piedmont, alongside Catena Zapata from Mendoza, Argentina, and DBR Lafite from Bordeaux, France. Total attendance exceeded 160 industry professionals, including importers, distributors, wine educators, seasoned enthusiasts, KOLs, and trade media.
Key highlights from the Masterclass:

Antoine Veiry, the young 90s‑born owner of Montus & Bouscassé, personally attended and hosted the masterclass. With the fresh perspective of a new‑generation winemaker, he walked us through the winemaking philosophy behind Tannat, the guardianship of single vineyards, and the family stories hidden in every label — served with clarity and quiet passion.

Seven iconic wines, five vintages from 1998 to 2019 — including a rare side‑by‑side of two Montus La Tyre vintages (the 2018 scored 99 points from Bettane & Desseauve) and a vertical of Bouscassé Vieilles Vignes (1998, 2008, 2018), revealing how Tannat evolves over time. Two whites, Bouscassé Jardin and Montus Blanc, added an entirely different voice to a predominantly red‑focused flight.

For more than 90 years, the Ceretto family has stewarded this land, now famous for its world-class Barolo and Barbaresco, both crafted exclusively from 100% Nebbiolo grapes.
This 90-minute masterclass not only guided guests through a comparative tasting of different vintages of Barbaresco and Barolo, but also offered a deep dive into single-vineyard Nebbiolo wines — a true cru tasting that highlighted the unique expression of each terroir.

Led by Presenter Mattia Pagliasso and Lecture Cristian Zhang, the session walked attendees through three generations of Ceretto’s evolution —— From the early, radiant character of 2018, to the classic, structured intensity of 2019, to the supple balance of 2020 — we witnessed how three distinct climatic conditions can be faithfully rendered under a single winemaking philosophy. And from the elegance of La Morra to the power of Serralunga, a horizontal tasting of seven crus made each vineyard’s unique personality recognizable and memorable. Ceretto’s approach proved something beautiful: while honoring tradition, Nebbiolo can also be genuinely enjoyable in its youth.

In Mendoza, the Catena family relies on their knowledge of the region’s high-altitude terroirs and their passion for Malbec. Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite brings its centuries-old know-how in growing, vinifying, and ageing great Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as its expertise in blending.

The session was a joint masterclass by Catena Zapata and DBR Lafite. Hosted by Leon Liang (founder of Sanyear Wine) . Soil, climate, and a quiet conversation between two families separated by an ocean but united by obsession.

During the masterclass, The “White Bones” from Adrianna Vineyard revealed how identical chalky soil can shape two entirely different lives for the same wine; Then came a 14‑year vertical of Catena’s iconic blend — Cabernet and Malbec, telling the story of “Argentina’s Bordeaux.” ;And finally, Caro 2022 beside Caro 2002: where high‑altitude obsession meets Lafite’s century‑old blending soul — twenty years of dialogue, distilled into two vintages.

W.E. —— A natural extension of WINWSA’s seven-year legacy as an international awards platform in wine and spirits.
Through its awards, offline events, and crossover collaborations, WINWSA has cultivated a vibrant community that transcends regions, industries, and identities — engaging a diverse network of cross-disciplinary KOLs and culturally curious audiences. Built upon this foundation, W.E. — The Wine Experience — looks beyond gender, nationality, and industry silos. It is a more open, sensory-driven platform, centered on creating ultimate experiences. By weaving together terroir, flavor, people, and stories, W.E. transforms every tasting into a gateway — to the world of wine and spirits, to cultural exchange, and to contemporary living.
Michelle Liu, founder of WINWSA, on why W.E. exists:
“Since the WINWSA Awards began, we’ve built a community that crosses borders, industries, and gender. W.E. is the next chapter — a wider stage where we bring together new voices, collaborators, and curious drinkers. To tell the real stories: of land, of time, of belief.”
