After interviewing her while she was pulling hoses during her internship at Errazuriz in Chile, Michael Silacci invited her to intern at Opus One, the renowned Napa Valley winery, in 2004. Nathalie did a second internship in 2005 before joining the team full-time. She is now Director of Viticulture at Opus One Winery and is responsible for all aspects of vineyard management, working directly with Michael.

She has presided over the research of the main pharmacological properties of Chinese herbal medicine in Zhuyeqing Jiu, the research of color difference standard, the influence of different sugar sources on the stability, the influence of color on turbidity, and the development of green stable Zhuyeqing jiu.

In 2018, McKechnie was officially taken under the wing of Scotch whisky’s longest-serving malt master, David Stewart MBE, making her one of the youngest women in the world to hold such an important whisky-making position.
